The Iowa Assessment of Skills and Knowledge for Automatic Word Recognition and Decoding (iASK)

Our Progress

We continue to hit all of our research and development goals and timeframes.  In the first seven months of the project (June – December 2015) we:

  • Prototyped and tested student tasks
  • Developed word lists for student tasks and gpc classes
  • Developed specifications for reporting tools, teacher guide modules, and guides for focus groups
  • Implemented and tested the initial iASK Student Application with students

Based on this progress, we were able to complete the following in January – June 2016:

  • Generated new lessons
  • Performed Wave 1 (of two Waves) student testing of iASK with 200+ middle school students in four schools (including standardized testing for validity measures)
  • Developed specifications for the Teacher Application, including navigation, interface, and enrollment
  • Developed specifications for the final design of the Student Application

From July 2016 – present we have been able to:

  • Validate iASK as a diagnostic tool with 237 middle school students
  • Optimize the content and tasks for the Wave 2 version of iASK
  • Perform Wave 2 student testing (standardized assessments and iASK validity and reliability testing)
  • Develop prototypes and initiate implementation of teacher/school reporting tools
